| LEDs (light emitting diodes) are used in virtually all electronic equipment, appliances, toys, signs, and many other products. The word lamp is derived from the Greek word lampas, meaning torch. There are two main types of light creation: incandescent lights, which use a filament, and Arc lights, which use an electrical current running through a gas. The first flashlight was used in the early 1890's in New York City. Sir Humphrey Davy of England invented the first electric carbon arc lamp in 1801. |
