| The American Karaoke Society offers free membership! Karaoke was originally designed to provide backing tracks for cabaret performers. Karaoke is a Japanese word derived from 'kara,' which means 'space' and 'oke,' which means 'orchestration.' So, when translated loosely, karaoke means 'empty orchestra.' Any standard TV can be connected to a karaoke machine. Some karaoke players have additional aspects such as echo control and multiple microphone outlets. Usually the song is recorded in the same key as the original version, though some karaoke machines do offer a key change function that allows you to change this. If an original song contains background vocals, the karaoke version will as well. These background vocals cannot be removed. Karaoke manufacturers are required by law to obtain the rights to reproduce songs. |
