| A camcorder is made of three key components: imager, lens, and recorder. Camcorders have slowly begun to replace ‘still' cameras and continue to do so today. All camcorders contain a lens, an imager, and a recorder. In 1998, a glitch in the manufacturing process caused Sony to inadvertently sell 700,000 camcorders that were found to have the ability to see through certain items of clothing. The HandyCam, a camera that could be held and operated with one hand, was introduced by Sony in 1985. The first patent on a camcorder was issued in 1980. The first company to introduce the camcorder was Sony in 1983. The second was Kodak in 1984. All camcorders come with an auto-focus device built in. |
