| Small domestic clocks began to be made in the first part of the 15th century. The earliest mechanical clocks, devoid of pendulums, were developed by Central European monks in the later years of the 13th century. The first clock was invented by the Chinese, it ran on water and kept time for the emperor only. Astronomer Galileo first thought of adding a pendulum to a clock but it was Christian Huygens, who actually constructed such a clock. |
